Secondary School

The Secondary School Sector is working with 42 Georgia middle schools to develop and create school health teams and student health advocate leaders to improve nutrition and physical activity among teens and their teachers. School health teams made up of both school staff and students use self-assessment data to create plans for improving school health programming, policies and environments that support healthy eating and activity. Students are trained to be leaders and health advocates for their peers and use social marketing strategies to promote healthy behaviors. Peer programs at this level have been show to be effective in improving health norms, behaviors and outcomes.
