Early Care and Education – SNAP-Ed Services

Each year, HealthMPowers Early Care and Education centers receive multiple services aimed to improve healthy eating and physical activity behaviors among children, staff and families. HealthMPowers SNAP-Ed services include Team Trainings, Model Lessons, Family Events, and Program Improvement Tools.

Team Trainings

HealthMPowers provides three Bright From the Start approved trainings each year (fall, winter, spring). At Team Trainings, Child Care Learning Centers and Family Child Care Learning Homes identify teams to lead the effort to assess current programs and policies and design improvement plans for the priority areas they want to strengthen. Teams receive training on innovative physical activity and nutrition activities, ideas for engaging families, and exciting resources to help Early Care and Education centers put their plans into action for each child and family they serve.

Model Lessons

Health Educators provide two model lessons per year for each site, each with a separate focus of either nutrition or physical activity. All model lessons involve teachers and staff in each classroom with the goal of supporting programs to further integrate nutrition and physical activity into classroom lessons.

Family Events

HealthMPowers supports centers in planning interactive, educational family events.  Planning nutrition and physical activity-related family events provides families the opportunity to practice creative and fun activities do together at home that strengthen their ability to make healthier choices. HealthMPowers also developed a family texting program for participating schools, with physical activity and health eating ideas for families to do together.
