With Covid-19 forcing daily operations to come to an abrupt stop, one Bibb County native took it upon herself to continue meeting her community’s needs. Valerie Sewell, Director of Operations at Loaves and Fishes Ministry located at 651 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Macon, GA 31201, has been a vital asset to improving food insecurity in Bibb County for years. As Director of Operations, Valerie provides meals for low-income and homeless community members. These meals are possible, in part, by donations of food and basic life necessities from community partners.
HealthMPowers frequently visits Loaves & Fishes — providing nutritious food samples and nutrition education to pantry-goers. In 2020, after Covid-19 safety protocols restricted HealthMPowers from traveling into communities to deliver services, Valerie stepped up and offered to continue the samples. HealthMPowers Community Engagement Specialist Dustin Sergent and team created a training protocol for Valerie and the staff at Loaves and Fishes. With this training, Valerie and her staff continued offering nutritious foods to Loaves and Fishes Ministry patrons.
Thank you, Valerie, for stepping up to meet the needs of your community during the pandemic and for being a true Health Hero for Macon Residents.
